Community development
Building stronger communities through collaboration
Every community is unique. We work alongside governments, non-profit organizations, Indigenous communities, and community partners to understand local needs, bring the right people together, and develop practical solutions that strengthen local capacity and improve outcomes for people and communities.
Our work is grounded in evidence, shaped by the people closest to the issue, and designed with sustainability in mind. Whether you are responding to a complex social challenge, developing a new initiative, or strengthening how services work together, we help turn shared priorities into coordinated action.
Bringing people and organizations together
Complex community issues rarely have a single solution. They require organizations, service providers, governments, and community members to work together in new ways.
We design and facilitate collaborative initiatives that strengthen relationships, improve service coordination, make better use of limited resources, and build more effective community responses.
We can support your organization at any stage of a community initiative, from understanding the need to developing the response and evaluating what is working.
Community and organizational needs assessments
Gathering evidence and community perspectives to understand needs, identify gaps, and inform decisions.
Stakeholder engagement and facilitation
Bringing diverse perspectives together to build understanding, find common ground, and move conversations toward action.
Strategic planning
Helping organizations and partnerships establish clear priorities, identify practical actions, and build a path forward.
Partnership and coalition development
Creating the relationships, structures, and shared approaches needed for effective collaboration.
Program design and implementation
Turning identified needs and priorities into practical programs and initiatives that can be implemented and sustained.
Trauma-informed service development
Supporting organizations to develop services and approaches that recognize the impacts of trauma and promote safety, choice, and dignity.
Cultural responsiveness and inclusion planning
Building approaches that reflect the experiences, perspectives, and needs of diverse communities.
Community consultations
Creating meaningful opportunities for community members and stakeholders to share their experiences, perspectives, and priorities.
Policy and protocol development
Developing clear, practical frameworks that support consistent practice and stronger coordination across organizations.
Evaluation and continuous quality improvement
Assessing what is working, identifying opportunities to improve, and using evidence to strengthen programs and services over time.
Community initiatives in action
No two communities face the same challenges, but successful initiatives share one thing in common: they are built through collaboration, informed by evidence, and shaped by the people they serve. These projects demonstrate how we’ve partnered with communities across Alberta to strengthen services, improve coordination, and create lasting change.
Kind Communities Alliance
Facilitated the development of a rural collaborative network across Southern Alberta to strengthen coordinated responses to family violence. The initiative brought community agencies together to improve communication, reduce service duplication, and make better use of limited rural resources.
Alberta Health Needs Assessment
Designed and conducted comprehensive needs assessments involving individuals living with chronic addictions and a history of repeated overdoses. Findings informed service planning and recommendations to improve access to trauma-informed supports and harm reduction initiatives.
Brooks Domestic Violence Intervention Team
Led the development of a multidisciplinary Domestic Violence Intervention Team, bringing together shelters, RCMP, Crown prosecutors, victim services, and community agencies to establish coordinated protocols, improve information sharing, and strengthen the community response to domestic violence.
Healthy Families Outreach Service
Developed a culturally responsive, trauma-informed outreach program focused on the prevention and early intervention of family violence within immigrant communities. The initiative emphasized community engagement, cultural safety, partnership development, and improved access to support services.
